This Jonathan Logan dress was designed by Jeanne Carr in 1958.  According to the Vintage Fashion Guild, Jonathan Logan fashions were geared for younger women who preferred classic, dressy clothing. The company was founded in 1944 by David Schwartz.  In the late 1950s, Jeanne Carr took over as designer and by 1966, Jonathan Logan was one of the largest ready-to-wear companies in the United States.

  1. The name “Jonathan Logan” brings back memories. I remember my sister and I coming home from school in the early 1960’s and watching “The Edge of Night” a popular soap opera which came on at 4:30 in the afternoon. When the credits were run at the end it would often say “Miss (an actress’ last name) wardrobe by Jonathan Logan”. Thank you for the photo of the dress in the Glamour Shot of the Day – what a beautiful, timeless design.

  2. I always love looking at the closing credits to see who furnished the wardrobe! The midcentury costume designers deserve respect but I think the designers have a special place in entertainment history, too.
